Therefore you need to connect the newest monitor to the display port and the old ones to the DVI ports, and all works perfect as it should. And it took me a while to learn that old monitors can not be connected (even with active displayport adapter) to the 6850 display port on the graphic card. It does not work if you connect with HDMI port. I connected the 3 Monitors by DVI and displayport with an active adapter. does not represent any advantage on 10.1 on Ubuntu, go for 10.1 version of catalyst until ATI fully supports the 6850 chip.My 3 monitors are fully working with the right resolution and the watermark is gone. I have an ASUS EAH6850 and by applying the installation howto marked in the links that you see in this thread, I was able to make it run with 3 Monitor.Ĭompiz works very good and The watermark can be removed with the script mentioned above. I propose you go with Catalyst 10.10 and remove there the watermark. Xinerama doesn't qualify in my opinion as this loses compositing ability.

Especially when they're now toting the fact that supposed the linux drivers support eyefinity. I'm really not going to be happy as I just replaced a pair of nvidia cards that worked mostly great short of compiz/compositing, as generally speaking nothing behaves right so far with the gargantuan 5870.

Anyone done this with full compositing/effects? I tried turning on overlays on xinerama-enabled display and seemed like it wanted to work, but began tiling the display so bad it was unusable.

For the life of me I can't seem to figure out how to composite across all 4 monitors, and it seems like it's really not an option as drivers only reference xinerama. Thus far I can only get them to work as 4 individual x sessions (performance seems crappy with 3d, no drag between, with/without compiz) or one big xinerama (no compiz, crappy performance). I'm just now trying to get these working on a newly purchased 5870 eyefinity 6 card with 4 monitors under 9.04 64bit ubuntu.

Natty Narwal will ship with 2.6.38 in AprilIt's at RC2 stage in the repos. Full open source support is forthcoming in Linux kernel 2.6.38.

The Catalyst driver may run on these cards, but it is not guaranteed (and you will be stuck with an "Unsupported Hardware" watermark unless you hack the control file). HD 6xxx are not officially supported with this driver - you still get the watermark.Ĭards in this group are unsupported as of Catalyst 10-12.

Not sure about other cards as there is nothing in the release notes apart from install instructionsĪlso there were lots of xorg updates plus a kernel update for Ubuntu 10.10 over the last few days.ĭoes anyone know if we can activate the administration - hardware drivers yet? Or is the only option to download the above? I guess this means my HD6850 is now supported in Linux - anyone tried the driver yet? Still hoping for a fixed/updated driver set.AMD (ATI) Catalyst 11.1 for linux now out with a listing for HD6xxx series cards. I found these keys by running a setup capture on the UAC prompt process. This removes the UAC prompt on first login. Since we have two Optiplex 990 standards, one with Intel and one with ATI I had to add the condition so it wouldn't apply the registry keys to my SFF 990 with Intel display. Select * from Win32_VideoController where Name like "%Radeon HD 6450%" *This task only runs if the Radeon HD 6450 Adapter is present by putting a WMI Query "Condition" on the Task. I added a task in my task sequence that imports the following registry keys. (using SCCM btw) After mini setup runs and the driver is installed via plug and play, the machine boots back up into the "Install Software" phase. I found a work around for my 6450 UAC prompt issue. I'm not sure what is going on, but there is definitely something not right with these drivers. This is even after I installed the Catalyst control center seperately. However, if I tell Windows to look for updated drivers, it will change it to a 5450. One last thing, I am having the same issue in our Windows XP 32-bit environment with the 790. Anyone else having these issues? Otherwise, it is working well for me. I've even downloaded drivers directly from AMD and same deal. Removing the device and uninstalling the drivers doesn't help. No matter what I try to do after that I cannot get it to go back to a 6350. If I go into device manager and tell it to scan for hardware changes, its start evaluating the video card and ends up reinstalling video drivers and saying it is a Radeon 5450. If I say yes, it says it finished installing the video card. When I logon with an administrative account, I get a UAC prompt asking me if I want to allow it to install hardware. As a normal user, I get a blocked error message stating newdev.exe was trying to run. I'm having an issue where upon logon it wants to finish some sort of setup.
